System Requirements
K2 Messenger is a 32 bit MultiThreaded windows application. You need Windows 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0 (or later). You have anyone of this OS installed on your machine, you fulfill the Requirement for Application Platform. But this is not enough, you need to have some additional services installed on your machine, discussed next in Services requirements.
Service [Network Protocol] used
It uses TCP/IP(Transfer Control Protocol), it listens on TCP port 4000.
Your system must have these service installed, to run this application.
TCP/IP is a standard Protocol, used all around the world for browsing Internet.
Proxy/Firewall
If you are behind the proxy server or firewall and you are prohibited to use port 4000,
you will be not enabled to communicate.
DNS (Domain Name Server) Configurations
Though you can send message directly using IP address of the remote host, but it is easier to send messages using names like "John", "Aamir etc. But for using names instead of IP’s you need to have DNS installed on your Network, with Entries of all hosts on the network in it. It simply resolves IP’s from names of the hosts.But aniazPOPUP version 1.6.0.0 and above comes along aniazPOPUP_DNS it will work even without these services installed on ur network.
Second option to achieve this is to have HOSTS / LMHOSTS files on each machine.
These files are present in your Windows directory, you simply edit these files and add names of the hosts against their IP’s, this is not a preferred solution as if you want to add new host you need to update these files on all the machines. You can ask your Network administrator to do this Job for you.
